Courses are approved by the:

  • GPMHSC approved by The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) for the Clinical Courses for Mental Health Skills Training (MH-ST) formerly termed level 1, and Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) Skills Training (FPS-ST), formerly termed level 2 mental health training, for GPs to apply to register to utilise an extra 7 mental health Medicare item numbers.
  • GPMHSC approved for the Clinical Course and the One Day Mental health Module and Advanced Clinical Courses for FPS Continuing Professional Development (FPS-CPD) for Medicare re-accreditation for General Medical Practitioners GPs to use the FPS mental health item numbers. Psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists can also use this accreditation to substantiate their own FPS Continuing Professional Development (FPS-CPD). The GPMHSC includes the Australian Psychological Society.
  • RACGP approved by The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for the Clinical Courses for 6 Active Learning modules (ALMs) each worth 40 category 1 points, i.e. 240 CPD points for general medical practitioners (GPs), and for 1 ALM for the One Day Module. An application is being made for 6 ALMs with the RACGP for the Advanced Clinical Course.
  • ACRRM approved by The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) for the Clinical Course for 30 PRPD points & 30 Core PD points and for the One Day Mental Health Module for 30 PRPD points. Approval for the Advanced Clinical Course with ACRRM is pending.
  • GPMHSC accreditation is being sought for ongoing registration for GPs for FPS Continuing Professional Development (FPS-CPD) for the Advanced Clinical Course as they were in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
  • The Australian College of Midwives (ACM) for eligible midwives under the MidPLUS programme.
  • Psychiatrists can allocate 48 PD credit hours for PD for the 6 day courses.
  • Physicians can allocate points under 'Structured Learning Activities'.
  • ANZCA The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) CPD Program, approval no. 1419 under Category 2/Level 2 – 2 Credits per hour as 96 credit points. (Accreditation does not represent endorsement or approval by the ANZCA of the activity.)

Reaccreditations are being sought with other professional bodies :

  • The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) to be appellated for eligible social workers for double credit points, ie 96 points.
  • The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) for eligible mental health nurses.
  • The Australian College of Nursing (ACN) for eligible nurses.
  • The Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) for eligible nurses
  • Application for accreditations will also be made with other health colleges

Special Notice re the APS

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) previously approved the Clinical and Advanced Clinical Courses in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and many other recent years for generalists and 4 specialist colleges: the Clinical, Community, College, Health and Counselling Colleges for 45 PD hours. The APS has ceased the approval process for all courses not conducted by the APS from any organisation including the CMH. The CMH courses were first approved by the APS in 1995. Psychologists can use the previous accreditations as a guide for their ongoing PD requirements.
